etckeeper

Been working on the etckeeper setup at work, found its not working as expected, seem to have problems with the nightly cron scripts that do a git pull back, seems to be a permissions problem on the git tree.  Hopefully it will be useful once its working properly, and we can see whats changed when. I’m planning on adding another script to go through the git repos and check if there are any un-commited changes in the HEAD, and notify me via email, incase one of the Admins forgets to commit a change (easy done).

Also been working on as400 replication again, fixing the last few bugs that have been hanging around for a while.

Darren setup power monitoring for me, so now i’ll get a SMS to tell me when Mains fail and when Genny kicks in, just need to look at doing something for the remote sites so i can sms myself on an outage, thinking I will poll the data from the rrd, since its already in there.

Dam its been HOT, got to 45ºc last week, thats the reason for all the power failures lately, hence why i asked Darren to setup the power monitoring. We lost power at home for Most of last Friday, and then again last night, its been frustrating to say the least. Hope it doesnt happen again this weekend with more hot weather forecast.

Git

Installed Git today at work, looking to use it for our kix scripts, and also for the iptables firewall rules. I’ve just been looking for a better web frontend that has a bit more flexability than gitweb does. I’ve found Git-PHP by Peeter Vois’s.

I’m sure that Version control is going to come in handy for me to see what i’ve changed and possibly roll back, and now msysgit looks to be working well on windows, why not. We went with Git over Bzr as we use etckeeper, which has a git backend, to backup the etc dir’s and monitor changes on all our Debian Linux Boxes.

Git in the windows world looks to be using msysgit with tortisegit and gitextensions.

Upgraded WordPress

I’ve upgraded wordpress to v2.7, I like the theme layout better.

Also worked on the St Stephens WordPress too, created a new Header background in my version and uploaded it to the SS webserver, looks like a bug in v2.7 of wordpress, when you set the color’s using the picker, it blanks out the header background.
