E-Maxx Upgrades

It seems only the Chassis and Bulkheads are still original on my E-Maxx, lol. Here’s a list of the different upgrades i’ve done to my Brushless E-Maxx.

E-Maxx Body

Kids designed and painted a new ’72 Chevy body for the E-Maxx, I’m happy with the results. Blend from blue to green turned out ok, red cross on the roof reminds me of the Dukes of Hazzard, lol.

E-Maxx Hopups

I need to upgrade / replace my CVD’s and Center Drive Shafts, there is a good thread on Maxx CVDs. I’ve also bought Titanium front skid, Alum center and read skid, and alum chassis braces, and trencher tires. A nice Gorilla-Maxx Build and a FLM-MAxx Build  also.

Traxxas CVD's 5451R

UPDATE: I also purchased some RPM A-Arms, and Stainless Steel hinge pins, as i thought i broke an A-Arm and i’m sick of the hinge screws winding them self out (on closer inspection it was the pin that was broken not the A-Arm)

Bandwidth monitoring – ip/host usage

An Alt title is “Where has all my internet usage gone”…

I’ve remove ntop as i found it too problematic, and not giving me the info i require. I have now installed ipfm (all though its no longer maintained) and bwstat, These seem to do what i need for the mean time, and should be simple enough to not cause me problems. In the future i might have to upgrade to pmacct, as it uses less cpu and has better options.

Next problem was having to add every host to the sql data base for reporting, so i found a good article that does something similar for PowerDNS and ISC Dhcp.

3D Printing

I saw a RepRap at Linux Conf AU some years ago, Its a computer controlled printer that uses ABS or PLA plastic to create 3d parts. I’ve been following it off and on for a while. Its getting cheaper and more reliable all the time, and the resolution of the prints and print speed has improved as it has evolved. There is also a range of models for 3D printing on Thingiverse.

It looks like everyone recommends the Prusa Mendal at the moment, with either RAMPS or Gen6 Electronics and Brass Bushings (or Linear). While its not clear on the best hotend, nosel size should be 0.35 for beginners, A Makergear Kit is by far the better way to start, and upgrade it from there. Prusa is also working on Iteration 2!

Be prepared to have a few failures while its being calibrated. Filament size doesnt seem to matter, possibly 3mm as its easier to get good results, but alot seem to be switching over to 1.75 as it melts in the hothead easier, but can be stringy. Ultimachine seem to be recommended and carry a resonable supply of ABS and PLA, and in AU Bilbycnc have ABS, with PLA on the way and Lybina seem good too.

There is a Melbourne Users Group with some useful posts.
